HPP design capacity is equal to 300 MW, average annual output is 1,027 billion kWh. HPP building has 2 bucket-type hydraulic units with capacity of 150 MW, operating at a nominal head 522 m. Turbines were manufactured by Andritz, Austria, and generators were manufactured by Harbin plant of electric machines from China.
HPP dam forms Bestyubinsk water basin at Charyn river, flooded area is about 10 sq.m., length of the water basin - about 16 km, width - up to 0.5 km, full capacity of the water basin - 238 mln.m³, useful - 198 mln.m³. Further, is is planned to build another water basin with HPP below the HPP, which will be a counter-regulator for Moynak HPP.
- HPP is designed by dam-diversion scheme. HPP structures:
- rockfill dam with height of 94 m;
- derivation tunnel with length of about 9 km;
- water discharge structures;
Developers of the plant of Moynak HPP JSC - Samruk-Energy JSC and AK Birlik JSC. Designer of the plant and developer of works on construction of derivation tunnel and HPP building - China International Water and Electric Corporation, as per the Decree No.1368 of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated 29.12.2007 "On state procurement of significant strategic meaning".
Financing of the project has been provided by credits of Kazakhstan Development Bank (USD 50 mln) and China Development Bank (USD 200 mln), the agreement was concluded in June 2006. Total amount of loan is equal to USD 328,8 mln, cost of construction of the HPP amounts to USD 340 mln.
AK Birlik JSC and Samruk-Energy JSC concluded the agreement for sale/purchase of 49% ordinary shares of Moynak HPP on 16.06.2014.
Therefore, on 30.06.2014 as a result of execution of orders on withdrawal/assignment of shares of Moynak HPP JSC by The Integrated Securities Registrar JSC, Samruk-Energy JSC is the Sole Shareholder of Moynak HPP JSC.
